S1000D Issue 4 has been implemented in this new release. With the considerable changes made to the S1000D specification there have been a large number of changes to the application to enable it to operate seamlessly with the other Issues of the specification. For those involved in a number of projects Eclipse S1000D for FrameMaker now supports Issue 1 changes 6 to 9, Issue 2 changes 0 to 3, Issue 3 and Issue 4. Multiple projects business rules regarding ID configuration and Attribute values are supported with switching between the various rules being automatically handled by a User Defined method which is easy to implement. Eclipse S1000D for FrameMaker comes configured with the default S1000D as well as the Bike Pack values.
As part of the general work on Eclipse S1000D for FrameMaker there have been a number of other changes/enhancements some of which are described below.
Editing/Formatting options: The S1000D specification has a number of structures which are required to be displayed in tabular form even though they are not, in some cases the elements are moved around. The Eclipse S1000D for FrameMaker enables the quick switching between the editing and formatted versions of the data to be achieved.
Applicability: The method of handling applicability has been redesigned in S1000D Issue 4 and the Eclipse S1000D for FrameMaker application has been provided with a new feature which makes the handling of this new method very straightforward using a ‘right-click’ menu option.
Menu Redesign: The special Eclipse S1000D menu has been largely redesigned to make the various options and functions easier to find. Additional features include a simplified Applicability function to allow in-line applicability to be hidden or displayed.
Page sizes: Over the years is has been suggested to Mekon that page sizes other than A4 would be useful addition. This has now been implemented and Eclipse S1000D for FrameMaker can now support A5, A4, A3L, ANSI A, Index card in both single and double column.
Text Formatting: Over the years compliance to S1000D text and page formatting has changed. In the Eclipse S1000D for FrameMaker application several new formatting features have been included but still enabling users to access the legacy styles if required via a preferences panel.
FrameMaker Versions: Issue 4 is an XML only specification and as such this particular version of S1000D can only be used with FrameMaker 7.2, 8 or 9. Similarly the XML versions of earlier versions of S1000D require the same versions of FrameMaker. The SGML versions of S1000D can be used with FrameMakers 7.0 through to 9.
Operating Systems: Eclipse S1000D for FrameMaker can be installed on Windows XP, Vista and Version 7 in both 32 bit and 64 bit versions. Windows NT and 2000 are no longer supported.
